Special Educational Needs

At Barton Clough Primary School, we aim to provide every possible opportunity to develop the full potential of every child. Children with learning differences must be valued as individuals and should be encouraged to integrate fully with their peers, both socially and academically. They must have access to the whole curriculum and at all times, consideration must be given to enhancing the self-esteem of children with learning needs.The aims of the provision for children with learning differences at Barton Clough Primary School are to:

• ensure the earliest possible identification of an additional need.
• involve parents as partners in the additional needs process.
• regularly monitor and review each child’s progress and take appropriate action.
• ensure that the school fulfils the requirement of the The New Code of Practice for SEN (2014).
• make clear partnerships with all outside agencies and support facilities.
• cater wherever possible for the full range of special needs within school.

Children with additional needs will be included fully within the curriculum wherever possible, with the provision of support staff and appropriate differentiation in place

The Trafford Local Offer

The intention of Trafford’s local offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. All schools and academies in Trafford are expected to identify and support pupils with special educational needs to make the best possible progress. Schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible and wherever possible, the needs of pupils with a Special Educational Need are met in a mainstream setting, where families want this to happen. Trafford’s Graduated Approach provides guidance on expectations of what should usually be available within school’s resources.

On the Trafford Local Offer you will also discover many ways in which children with additional needs can be supported within the borough of Trafford and their lives enhanced.

Transition to Secondary School Support

Please see the attached PowerPoint video, where one of our Bright Futures Trust Educational Psychologists, Hannah Fryer, shares helpful tips and practical strategies to support our Year 6 pupils as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.

Hannah will also be in school on Monday 6th July from 2:00–3:00pm to host a drop-in session. Parents and carers are welcome to come into school via the main office to ask questions, seek advice, or discuss any concerns about supporting their child through this important transition.

We understand that moving to secondary school can be an exciting but sometimes challenging time for both children and families. If you would like some guidance or simply the opportunity to talk things through with Hannah, please do come along to the drop-in session.

The Trafford Parents Forum

Parents can receive extra support and advice from The Trafford Parents Forum, who work in partnership with parents and professionals in the key areas that affect them and children with special needs.  This can vary from a cup of coffee, the opportunity to meet other parents, leaflets and information to invitations to training events and conferences.
